AMR BANDS: 2007 IN REVIEW & WHAT'S COMING IN 2008

STRANGERS

STRANGERS began the year with the release of a demo cd-r titled "Holding". It sold out completely in weeks and received positive reviews from NZ and the rest of the world. They played throughout NZ and in their hometown of Wellington and eventually recorded and released their first full-length, titled "Weight". Recorded at STL Audio in Wellington, and mastered by James Plotkin (ISIS, Khanate etc), this 10-track album continued STRANGERS' unsettling and aggressive style while experimenting with texture and dynamic in new ways. Eventually, the band farewelled guitarist Mike Schibli who left for far nicer locales, and welcomed Rich Burns (DIAL, Neon Bastard, Karaoke). With this new line-up, the band have an exciting 2008 lined up - a new 7" in the first quarter of the year, an Australian tour in April, a re-visit of the South Island and more. Stay tuned.

THE WRONGMEN

Following on from 2006's "Den of Vipers", THE WRONGMEN continued their hard-working attitude of touring, playing everything from Punkfest to a 3-week Australian tour in September, supporting their new s/t 7". This record showcased three new tracks - the infectiously chaotic "So Wrong", the melodic d-beat track "Sprayed", and a cover of The Stooges "1970". However, drummer Ben Knight has now left the band (again for much nicer locales), and an end is in sight for the band. There is a final release to come though; a split 7" with Wellington's NEON BASTARD. This record will feature recordings of THE WRONGMEN's last material - "Black Tuesday", "Ghosts" and more.

SO... 2008 RELEASES
Apart from the above, there are a bunch of new releases for AMR in 2008: a STRANGERS 7", THE WRONGMEN / NEON BASTARD split 7", the SMASHIN' OFF discography LP (split release with Batshit Insane Records). Aside from this, I will also be starting a sub-label for print releases - a sketchbook by Zak Penney and Pepe, a zine of writing by, errrm, myself; and some more. No doubt there will be others too that arise during the course of the year. So Rejoice!, fuckers, for 2008 can't possibly be worse than '07.
